This 2-day event, 15-16 July in Belém, zooms in on impacts from joint research and innovation, including societal and economic benefits.
The workshop also offers ample opportunities to brainstorm priorities for future IT policies between Brazil and Europe, such as R&I topics that can benefit most from transatlantic collaboration.

As supporters of Cloudscape Brazil 2019, Global5G.org and To-Euro 5G have joined forces to provide position papers on key topics for 5G.

Position Paper 1
5G Business Models and Opportunities for SMEs as savvy providers of 5G applications and services

Authors: John Favaro, Trust-IT and Vice-Coordinator of Global5G.org; Jacques Magen, Interinnov and Chair of NetWorld2020 SME Working Group; Nicola Ciulli, Nextworks and Co-chair of the NetWorld2020 SME Working Group

Summary: The imminent arrival of 5G will bring disruption in business models for incumbent operators and verticals alike. While opportunities will surely arise for large, well-positioned market participants, the real winners may well be those SMEs who have mastered the key technologies and services enabling the new business models emerging from the inevitable disruption not only in the telecommunications ecosystem but also in the vertical sectors making use of 5G including automotive, manufacturing, health, energy, and others.

Position Paper 2
Mission Critical Communications – Towards 5G, Pre-commercial Procurement and the Integration of Satellite Communications

Author: Stephanie Parker, Trust-IT and Coordinator of Global5G.org

Summary: Mission-critical communications, primarily used by law enforcement, public safety and security agencies, such as police, fire, ambulance and the military, are essential for Public Protection and Disaster Relief (PPDR) operators, protecting lives every single day and in every corner of the world. This position paper explores on-going standardisation work for PPDR by first looking at work towards globally harmonised standards through 3GPP SA6 on mission critical applications with enablers and a toolkit designed to help vertical industries reduce time to develop their applications and services.
We then go on to look at pre-commercial procurement for PPDR through the Horizon 2020 BroadWay project before zooming in on the role of satellite networks and their gradual integration in 5G.
